Body Lift |
Belt Lipectomy, also known as the lower body lift, offers the most dramatic transformation of the mid and lower body. It is truly a ‘resculpting’ of the abdomen, hips, thighs, and buttocks. Broken into its components, the lower body lift includes a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), a thigh lift, and a buttock lift.
BEFORE THE SURGERY EVERY PATIENT MUST:
Surgery Costa Rica will schedule an appointment with your doctor for you so that you can ask him any questions you might have about the surgery.
Have a complete medical check up, an electrocardiogram and laboratory blood and urine tests; including a complete whole blood count, partial tromboplastin time, prothrombin time, platelets, and HIV.
Take antibiotics such as Augmentin 500mg, (one capsule three times a day with each meal) Cipro or Ceclor 500mg (one capsule twice a day with a full breakfast and dinner); two days before surgery, the day of the surgery, and seven more days after the surgery.
Inform your doctor of your daily vitamin and medication intake.
Notify your doctor if you have developed a cold or the flu a week prior your surgery date.
Please avoid: aspirin, more than 500mg of Vitamin E, ginkobiloba, ginseng, or any blood thinners two weeks prior your surgery. Also avoid alcohol intake, and passive or active smoking for one month before and one month after the surgery. Remember that nicotine and alcohol delays and might even complicate your healing processes.

Postoperative instructions regarding activity, medications and office visits will be given following your surgery.
The body lift procedure is performed on post bariatric patients AND patients who have not had weight loss. The body lift transforms patients that have experienced massive weight loss and have excess skin. However, results are just as dramatic in patients who in addition to a tummy tuck want a tightening of the skin in their thighs and buttocks. The body lift (belt lipectomy) has the advantage that it can be done in one surgical session, or in stages, depending on the patients needs.
Stand in front of a mirror. Look at your abdomen. Pinch the skin in the lower abdomen (use the thumb and palm of hand to hold one edge of skin then grasp the lower skin with all four fingers). If you like how your skin tightens, and the way your pubic mound lifts, you are a candidate for the abdominoplasty procedure.
Now pinch the loose skin around your hips, see how it lifts the hips and thighs. If you like this maneuver, you are a candidate for the lateral thigh lift. In combination with abdominoplasty, it is called an ‘extended abdominoplasty’.
Stand facing away from the mirror and look over your shoulder so you can see as much as you can of your backside. Reach back with the palm of you hand and lift the butt. This approximates what a butt lift can accomplish. If you want improvement in all these areas, the Lower Body Lift (belt lipectomy) is the procedure for you.
The body lift procedure is done under local anesthesia and sedation. Excess skin and fat from the entire midsection of the body is removed. The skin closure is tailored to enhance the figure.
The ideal location for a body lift scar is along the waistline where most garments would provide scar coverage. Posteriorally and laterally, the scar should lie at the level of the anterior superior iliac spine, or approximately three finger-breadths from the top of the iliac crest. Anteriorally, the scar should be at the interface between the hair-bearing pubic area and the lower abdomen.
Following the body lift procedure patients should plan to be out of work for 3-4 weeks. Please consider staying in San José, Costa Rica for at least 2 weeks.
